Our take
The Razer Huntsman Mini packs Razer's fast optical switches into a tiny 60% layout. It frees up desk space for wide mouse movements and has durable doubleshot PBT keycaps.
Layout
A 60% keyboard keeps only the main typing keys. The function row, arrow keys, navigation keys and number pad are accessed through a function layer, by holding the Fn key with another key. That takes a little time to learn, and it's awkward for spreadsheets, coding and text editing. In games, though, you rarely need those keys, and the extra mouse space helps low-sensitivity shooter players.
It's also easy to carry to friends' houses and LAN events.
Optical switches
Razer's optical switches use a beam of light to detect a keypress, which makes them very fast and avoids the wear on metal contacts that can cause missed or double presses on mechanical switches. The clicky purple version gives a sharp tactile click; the linear red version is smooth and quieter.
Build
The aluminium top plate keeps it rigid, and the doubleshot PBT keycaps resist shine and wear. The USB-C cable is detachable, and per-key Chroma RGB lighting can be set in Razer Synapse and saved to the keyboard.
Who should buy it
Buy the Huntsman Mini if you play competitive games and want maximum mouse space, or need a portable gaming keyboard. If you want arrow keys and a function row in a compact board, a 75% keyboard like the Razer BlackWidow V4 75% is more practical.
