Our take
The Razer BlackWidow V4 75% is Razer's take on the enthusiast-style compact keyboard. A gasket-mounted design, sound-dampening foam and hot-swappable switches make it feel and sound far more premium than typical gaming keyboards.
Typing feel and sound
The keyboard's internals sit on soft gaskets rather than being screwed rigidly to the case. That gives each keypress a slightly cushioned feel and a deeper, more muted sound. Two layers of foam reduce hollow echo. The result is one of the nicest-sounding keyboards from a mainstream gaming brand.
It comes with Razer's Orange tactile switches, which have a gentle bump without a loud click.
Hot-swappable switches
The switches are hot-swappable and compatible with most 3-pin and 5-pin mechanical switches, so you can replace them with linear, clicky or quieter switches without soldering.
Layout and features
The 75% layout keeps the arrow keys and function row but drops the number pad, saving desk space for your mouse. A programmable command dial in the top-right corner controls volume by default. Per-key Chroma RGB with underglow is bright, and a magnetic wrist rest is included.
The keycaps are doubleshot ABS, so the legends won't wear off, but the plastic will become shiny with heavy use. PBT keycaps are a cheap upgrade.
Who should buy it
Buy the BlackWidow V4 75% if you want a compact gaming keyboard that's also satisfying to type on, with room to customise it. If you need wireless, look at the Keychron K2 Pro or Razer's BlackWidow V4 Pro 75% wireless version.
